Kauai - Day Two

This island has few stop signs, a lot of chickens and runs on one speed...slow.  At first it's relaxing.  An island pace.  And then, it becomes aggravating.  (The fact that this happened on the second day for me surprises no one.)  The pleasant "Aloha" and "Mahalo" gives way to an uncomfortable silence in the elevator.  And I relish that silence.  The bitter in-between phase that comes between greeting your elevator mate and them exiting on their floor.  Preferably after yours.  I spend most of that time calculating when I'm going to say "good-bye" or "have a nice day."  Too early and you run the risk of forced conversation or witty banter while the doors slowly open.  Too late and you sound snotty, as if you're making a comment on their lack of social grace.

But I have digressed.

Our second day started with a late breakfast and a workout.  There is a koi pond in front of the lobby.

The floor was wet.

We then drove to Po'ipu to go shopping.  We tried going on a trail near the beach, not realizing that the trail began on the beach.  We ended up on a dirt road to...nowhere.  An illicit meeting spot in the jungle.  Frustrated, we headed back to the beach (groping our way beneath spider webs and over desiccated frogs) and sat there until the sun set.

The surfers were fun to watch.  The swells were such that we were worried about a little dog who was trying desperately to get into the water.

He ran back and forth, sometimes cavorting in the waves.  I took a video of it, but accidentally caught two gentleman in speedos, and, well, I'd rather not disturb you.

We then proceeded to the Spouting Horn.

I realize that that was the shortest video ever, but it is what it is.  The horn spouts and makes a wonderful noise.  The park was empty except for us and two other people.  We took a lot of pictures and stared off into the ocean.  AND SAW A WHALE!  Happy Birthday to...my sister.  To celebrate her turning...older...we went to Roy's for dinner and the food was delicious.  Our waitress was very sweet.  AND we had two chocolate deserts.

We then drove home in the dark.  I leave you with this instruction and thought for the day:
