Weekend Culture

Saw Mamma Mia in San Diego this weekend with my Aunt.  It was an early birthday present to each other.  I had never seen it before and was very much looking forward to it.  And it did not disappoint.  The lead actress was phenomenal - Kaye Tuckerman.  After the show we panicked for a few moments as we realized we had failed to note what level of the parking structure we were parked on.  Since there were about four hundred people waiting for two elevators, we knew that if we guessed wrong it would spell doom (or at least a really long wait for an empty car).
At our pre-show Mexican lunch.  Mmmmm.
But fortunately for us, the loud, Tammy Faye Baker look-alike we had ridden down with before the play started was waiting just a few feet away.  Bravely I stepped forward, tapped her on her sequined shoulder and asked what floor she was going to.  She was very nice, laughed loudly and with vigor and possibly a smokers cough and happily informed us that we were parked on level three.

Happened across a car show this morning on our way to breakfast and saw this:
See Jake?  He's mad because he wants to go to breakfast and I wanted to take a picture of the cute SWAT guy.
Check out the thigh attached side arm.  Research opportunity for me, and I did not waste the opportunity.

The local police were giving a demonstration on K9 take downs and there were rookies providing crowd control.  One of them looked about sixteen and he was yelling into his radio, in obvious exasperation, at another rookie (only about five feet away, mind you).  That other rookie (who looked like he might also work as a stand-in for Paul Blart, the mall cop) hiked up his pants and went running away from us.  I wondered if there was a scuffle somewhere that required immediate attention, but sadly after he ran away, I lost track of him and didn't see any hubbub.

And then we saw this...pure awesomeness.
