I responded almost immediately that I did, which isn't the first odd thing I've done in the past two months, but by far the most important. Since this was for the association I've only been a part of for a short time, and an association I haven't yet written anything for, I took myself outside for a while to ponder the rationale about volunteering for such a project.
But then I thought, screw it. What the hell...I could do this.
So I started scratching out a poem and teaching myself watercolor. The poem took me ages to finish. I rewrote and rewrote more than I've ever edited anything in my life. The paintings I wasn't so worried about. I knew they'd look silly, but that was the point. This was a poem for children, about flying. The words were what was important.
In the end, I'm very happy I did this. I'm contemplating sending in the story to an editor to see if it would make a good children's book. I'd love to see the illustrations someone could think up.
Sorry this is so small. I'll post the poem someday on another page. In the meantime enjoy...if you've got supervision, or the power of zoom. |
